Subtle Parenting Mistakes That Can Cause Adulthood Depression & Anxiety
Many of my clients discover that the root cause of their depression and anxiety comes down to either parenting mistakes or traumatic experiences in childhood.
Whilst extreme and traumatic experiences and upbringings can be easy for clients to pinpoint as the cause of their personal issues, some have undergone much more subtle experiences in childhood that have left them confused as adults as to why they suffer.
Taking a look at this subtle parenting mistake:
This Yale study shows how parenting techniques can further facilitate anxiety in children. Parents can inadvertently perpetuate issues by adjusting their own behaviours to the needs of their anxious child, such as by sleeping in their bed every night. Whilst believing they are promoting wellbeing by giving in to their child’s pleas, actions can often have a reverse effect. Children’s nighttime fears can be reinforced by the well-meaning parent, and they do not learn the independence and confidence needed to get over the hurdle. Instead, their anxiety is perpetuated.
Coming up with playful and/or resourceful solutions to encourage resilience and gently nudge children to be more confident in themselves is a proactive not only to deal with one particular issues, but to set the foundations for children to learn life skills to deal with other challenges that crop up along the way.
Repairing the Past
For adults who suffer from anxiety, reflecting on your own journey through childhood can indicate essential areas in your life where resilience and self-confidence needs to be grown.
You can combat depression and anxiety with RTT hypnotherapy today by identifying patterns of behaviour that started in the past.
Through a combination of techniques under hypnosis, the ingrained patterns of thought and behaviour that cause anxiety and depression are challenged and ultimately broken. From here, the process then installs positive and resilient habits through hypnotherapy that is tailored to the insights that come to light about the root cause and personal needs of the client.
